Round 12 Report
Football
Seniors
Monbulk had a critical encounter with Woori Yallock as the fight for finals spots heats up. The two teams were both outside the Top 5, sitting sixth and seventh respectively with a win vital for both sides. The ground was firm however overnight rain along with intermittent showers and drizzle made for a slippery surface.
Monbulk made a number of late changes as Daniel Banks, Noah Rutherford and Charlie Barge were called up to the selected team from Thursday. The two combatants were evenly matched and there was never more than a kick or two in it. The Hawks created more scoring opportunities from their forward entries but the Tigers made the most of their chances with greater accuracy. Monbulk learnt from their previous encounter with the Tigers that they needed to negate their marking game, and this was executed with a concerted team effort. Many Woori forward forays were then negated by a tight Monbulk defence which repelled the Tigers time and again. The slippery surface created turnovers by both sides with players losing their footing as it became a contested ground ball game. Patrick Snoxell won his contests in the ruck with the experienced Zach Monkhorst, which played a big part in deciding the outcome. Monbulk held on for a well deserved 13 point win.
With the completion of Round 12, the season is now two-thirds of the way through. Monbulk’s gutsy win saw them rise two spots to fourth as they entered the Top 5 for the first time this year and will travel down to Officer to face another evenly matched rival this week.

Reserves
The Hawks brought in three Under 18s for a second match, along with two veterans to fill their team this week. Inaccuracy also affected the Reserves match. Woori Yallock won the game when they kicked four straight in the second term to Monbulk’s one goal seven behinds. The Hawks lack consistency across the game and the Tigers capitalised on this. Monbulk have now fallen out of the Top 5 after a costly loss.
