Another perfect autumn day welcomed Mt. Evelyn to the Monbulk Recreation Reserve on Saturday. The Rovers are one of the big improvers of 2026 and they burst from the blocks, kicking five goals to none in the opening quarter. A serious leg injury to Ryan Burleigh coincided with a lift in intensity from the Hawks as they fought their way back into the contest to trail by two goals at the main break.

That margin of around two goals was maintained by the Rovers for most of the second half as every time Monbulk threatened, the Mt. Evelyn team would find a steadier. The Hawks attacked strongly to the end of the match but ran out of time and opportunities.

Reserves
Mt. Evelyn are the undisputed flag favourites in the Reserves, being undefeated and with a percentage of around 500. The Hawks welcomed back their playing coach, Johnathon Hevern, after he had overcome his pre-season knee setback.

As hard as Monbulk tried, they were unable to match Mt. Evelyn’s dominance with the ball.

Under 18s
Monbulk and Pakenham entered the match with two wins apiece and an even contest was anticipated. The Hawks started full of running and soon had a handy buffer but were unable to shake the Lions who remained in striking distance. Two early goals by Pakenham in the final quarter got them within a couple of kicks. Monbulk then put on the afterburners and slammed on seven goals to close out the match with an emphatic win.

Veterans
After a four week break the second installment of the returning Veterans drew another large crowd on Friday night. Monbulk again had a full complement of 28 players with six emergencies as more new signings of past players swells the playing list to 40 members. The Hawks controlled proceedings against the winless Rovers to record a solid win, the only sour note being a dislocated elbow to Greg Van Berkel.

Netball
A Grade
The two unbeaten sides met in this clash at Monbulk to determine premiership favouritism. The Rovers controlled play for most of the match as they pounced on any loose passes by the Hawks. Paige Whitworth celebrated her 150th game this week!

B Grade
The Hawks were jumped early in this match and found themselves 16 goals in arrears at half time. Greater intensity saw them win the second half however the margin was too big to claw back. Madison Doran made her club debut. Dayna Walsham played her 100th game for the club also!

C Grade
Monbulk and Mt. Evelyn may be at opposite ends of the ladder and the scores might reflect that however the Hawks competed very hard throughout and were just unable to get reward for effort.

D Grade
The Grand Final replay produced a titanic struggle between these fierce rivals. The Rovers got in front by a couple of goals in the first quarter and maintained a narrow margin for the remainder of the match.

Monbulk Maroon played a superb game against Wandin, where they led for the first half. A lapse in the third term proved critical as they went down narrowly by 2 goals. Monbulk Gold met the strong Mt. Evelyn team and while they battled hard they were unable to translate that onto the scoreboard. Stevie Mullinder played her 50th game.

Monbulk Gold and Pakenham Maroon went into this match as unbeaten ladder leaders. In a tight struggle it was Monbulk’s early break that proved decisive in allowing Gold to claim a four goal win. Monbulk Maroon met Pakenham Gold and also registered a four goal win which had been set up in the opening term.
