A Grade
Monbulk and Woori matched up well and it was the Hawks who got off to a better start, leading 21-15 early in the second term. Woori then applied pressure and won some turnovers which then had them leading by a solitary goal at the half time break. The third term was an arm wrestle with neither side giving an inch and the margin remained the same. It was still goal for goal until about halfway through the last when the Tigers broke through, unfortunately ending Monbulk’s season in the process.

B Grade
Last year Monbulk’s B Grade team won the premiership from fifth and coming from the Elimination Final. This year the same five clubs made the finals and the Hawks would again have to go the long way but had confidence after last week’s win. There was nothing in this match to half time as any advantage gained was quickly cancelled with the game tied 28-28. Small moments can change matches and a couple of Kangaroo intercepts turned into goals, with ROC riding that confidence to the finish.

D Grade
Another team who had hopes of back to back flags was D Grade and they were in a titanic struggle with ROC for the first three quarters, with scores level pegging at three quarter time. The defence, led by Katrina Wragg, won numerous turnovers to keep the Hawks right in it. It wasn’t until the last when ROC capitalised on a couple of lapses that the two sides were finally separated.

Under 15s
Monbulk Gold
Both Under 15s teams were looking at securing their place in the Grand Final of their division. The Monbulk Gold girls finished minor premiers in the Premier division and after having a week’s rest met their recent rivals ROC Blue at Woori Yallock. They had played each other in last year’s Grand Final and were a win apiece this season. A close match was anticipated with both being keen to claim the first spot in the big one.

ROC got out to a better start and held a two to three goal advantage through the first three quarters. Trailing 21-24 at the final change, Monbulk played inspired netball to overhaul ROC with a 10-6 final term and snatch a thrilling win by a single goal. Being the only Monbulk side to remain in the finals, their next match will be the Grand Final on Saturday September 19 at Healesville where a big Monbulk crowd is expected to support them for an early 8.30am start. They will play either ROC Blue or Pakenham Maroon.

Monbulk Maroon
Playing in the knockout Preliminary Final of Division 1 at Yarra Junction it was goal for goal through the first half. In the third quarter Pakenham managed to score 9-3 which left the Hawks with an uphill task. They played a great game in the final quarter and nearly reeled in the deficit but just ran out of time as they went down narrowly. Monbulk Maroon were extremely unlucky that they lost both chances to gain a spot in the Grand Final by a single goal but they have had a great year and have done the club proud.
