Round 2 Summary

The Monbulk Football Netball Club were at home on a perfect autumn day to play in front of a large crowd gathered at the nest for an ANZAC round encounter. The Monbulk Seniors and Reserves made their debut for the year after having byes on the opening weekend. Being placed in the Premier Division this year, the Hawks were drawn to play one of the benchmark teams of the competition in the form of Narre Warren. This occasion being the first time these clubs had met in competition matches as Narre Warren became Monbulk’s 52nd different opponent since first having played against Ferntree Gully in 1895.

We would like to also take this opportunity to say a BIG THANKYOU for all players, volunteers and supports for turning up for our first game at the NEST. It felt so good everyone back together after a tough few years!

Seniors ?
The Seniors match pitted two determined sides against each other in a high quality and fast moving match that entertained the gathered masses. Narre held a slight lead by a couple of goals for the first three quarters and it was only in the final term that they were able to break away.

Reserves ?
The Reserves were a bit of a mismatch as many of the Hawks had not had a big pre-season and they will be better for the run.

Under 19s ?
For the Under 19s it was a case of deja vu all over again as they suffered a second successive defeat by the small margin of 2 points with even the scores being identical to their previous outing. With three of their best players having been promoted to the seniors, the Hawks still had a good squad to tackle one of the stronger Unders teams. In a day-long arm wrestle it was Narre who were able to keep their noses in front when the final siren blew.

The Women met Pakenham in the evening but fell short as the backline held up well against numerous advances from the Lions.
